Method of Installation of Other Materials Before ACP Cladding Fixation

Installation of Steel Rock Wool Thermal Insulation

Check first if the Damp Proofing Membrane is applied and all the pipes for electrical are installed at the surface concrete before installing the Saudi Thermal Rockwool Insulation. Align the panel horizontally and vertically. Insert and bore six pieces per panel of anchor Matt through the panel. Ensure that the aluminum cover is facing outside of the wall, and the rock wool fiber will be attaching the concrete surface.

Fixation of the steel horizontal C-channel runner

Steel c-channel will fix atop of the cleat of vertical steel frame runner by M6 x 25 self-tacking screw. Check the position of the C-channel against the fabrication drawing. Some c-channel face downwards and some face upwards.

 Galvanized Surfaces

Clean areas where galvanizing is damage or missing and repair galvanizing to comply with ASTM A 780.

Establishment of Brackets and vertical frames, Tightness of bolts.

Once correct elevation layout of steel frames and bracket has been established, secured and checked, bolts can now tighten to its required torque.

Installation of Secondary Weather Proofing Barrier (EPDM):

  1. At the top most steel member of the vertical steel frame runner located at the roof parapet, a sheet of 1.5mm thick EPDM rubberized waterproofing membrane will be layout on all around the parapet perimeter and act as a secondary waterproofing barrier.
  2. The EPDM sheets will be place covering from the outer edge of the steel vertical frame to the bottom inner edge of the steel vertical frame forming a capping membrane on the top of parapet steel frame. It will be sealed by a 20 x 20 x 2mm aluminum angular bar positioned and screwed along the edge perimeter of the EPDM from edge to edge horizontally

Installation of Aluminum Composite Panels

  1.  Installation for cladding method via Wet Sealant Joint.
  2. ACP cladding is pre-fabricated at factory shop level (Cut, folded and assembled). It comes in a different color according to the shop drawing architectural specification.
  3.   ACP cladding is stored and stacked vertically, covered with suitable weather tight polyethylene plastic sheet and resting on a wooden pallet.
  4.    All composite cladding panels will be shifted from the site storage to the fixing location on trolleys or manually as allowed by the location access conditions.
  5.     Each cladding has a different place as per color, an approved fabrication drawing showing layout elevation and cladding code will be the reference.
  6. The composite cladding panels will be lifted in position manually and mounted on the vertical and horizontal steel frame runners.
  7.  Mark the installation line by the shop drawing.
  8.      Fix the ACP cladding by toggling them on to the vertical and horizontal runners.  No. 8 x ¾ Pan Head Self Drilling screw will be used to adjust the angular cleat of the ACP after confirming the position of the cladding panel. Make sure that the EPDM membrane is still glued on the aluminum angle of the ACP.
  9. Ensure that the gap space between the horizontal and vertical cladding is 10mm spaced evenly on both ways. Use shim equal to 10mm as a tool and place them temporarily in every gap of the cladding to ensure gap uniform size.
  10. The ACP panels will be correctly positioned aligned and leveled. Ensure that the gap between the panels are all equal and measures 10mm and follows alignment. Unequal measurement of 1-3mm can be tolerated.
  11. The protective film on the panels will then be removed partially along the gap edges, and the backing rod will be inserted in the gap between two panels and sealed off with the approved Sealant, Dow Corning 791 Neutral Silicone using sealant applicator’s gun manually.
  12. Typical sealing works include cleaning of the joints, inserting backup material, applying masking tape, using primer, filling with sealant, tooling with the palette knife, removing masking film and curing. As improper sealing work will affect the appearance and waterproofing performance test of the joint, the sealing work must be conducted correctly based on the instructions from the sealant manufacturer.
  13. On completion of all other trades, the protective film will be removed.
  14. A final last application of sealant on all gaps. Ensure that the application of sealant will leave no trace of overuse spreading on the face surface of the ACP panels.

Interfacing with another contractor

  1.   Fixation of escutcheon plates of decorative cover if any drainage or security camera will protrude ACP on the outside surface. It should be well installed maintaining the aesthetic design of finished ACP (See Specification Clause-074243 /1.6 f & 1.9a-Composite wall panels)
  2.      Apply sealant on the edge of the protective covering or escutcheon plates to secure water tightness.
  3.  If the protruding item that interfaces the cladding is connected to an electrical system, like an open copper bar or wire, the metal that enters through the cladding it should have a protective insulation of nonconductive material such as industrial plastic or rubber that can withstand the thermal heat generated by the metal. The metal should not in any way be touch by the aluminum metal surface covering of the ACP cladding.                             

General Cleaning and Handover

  1. On completion of all other trades, the protection film and the units will be cleaned before hand over. Any splashed cement or concrete on ACP should be removed by the responsible contractor without damaging the aluminum finish.
  2. Cleaning of medium to heavy surface soiling: To remove medium to heavy soiling caused by grease and sealing material, some type alcohol such as IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol), ethanol or N-hexane is used. Dilute alcohol by 50% with water. Do not use solvent it may cause the detrimental effect on the coating surface.
