7 facts about World tallest Building Jeddah that you don't know

Jeddah Tower the world tallest building in the world and previously known as Kingdom Tower Project. The building is designed to be 1,006 meter high located in Saudi Arabia, Jeddah near KAIA International Airport at red sea Jeddah.

Here are some highlight facts that you don't know about the world tallest building known as Jeddah Tower by Waleed Bin Talal who previously build Kingdom Center.

#1 No more world tallest building for next few years


There are few reasons and the main reason media is circulating no more construction at Jeddah After the detention of Al Waleed bin Talal. The project is considered on hold with no further constructions while main contractors and sub-contractors are taking away their raw materials from the project site. There is only paperwork going on claims and cost by the main-contractor. There is no signal when the project is going to start again.

The building concrete is currently poured up to 66 building but the main contractors struggling for the last year as some of the levels found with cracks in concrete. These cracks initially in slabs but gradually in the main core wall of the building. Which gives remedies to repair concrete and some level concrete were cut down to pour it again.

#2 Tallest building has no access above 637 meters


The observation deck was previously known as helipad but due to design and structural load the building part is unable to handle the load and convert it to observation deck instead of the helipad. There is now no access to a land helicopter at 637 meter high.

People can stay in the hotel up to level 156 while the last level where people can approach that high is level 157 located observation deck. The rest of high rise are empty and designed with transparent glass just for the lighting purpose. The upper part can't handle the load and just stairs with lights. The lights to demonstrate the illusion from outside that people are residing that high. Somewhere only the BMU as known as building maintenance unit to install for cleaning the glass only.

#3 No access area in the whole building 


Due to high rise building, the building is occupying some levels that are no use for the people to move and reside. Find no access areas due to the Mechanical unit floors, refuges levels. Refuges levels are designed in randomly between the levels to evacuate people from upper floor to the safe levels during the fire or an accident.

No access levels are followings:


  • Level 3 to Level 5: These level are including mechanical units for the buildings. And will have access to the maintenance team only while visitors are not allowing to these levels. 
  • Level 16 to 17: Mechanical floor also known as the double height floor. There is no slab between 16 and 17 due to mechanical unit requirements with no public access. 
  • Level 29 to 32: Mechanical units floor
  • Level 47 is refuge floor and will have access to this floor during the emergency. 
  • Level 48 to 50: Mechanical requirements floor
  • Level 64 is refuge floor
  • Level 79 is refuge floor
  • Level 89 is refuge floor
  • Level 90 to 92 is a mechanical floor
  • Level 103 some area for refuge only
  • Level 114 both refuge area and for mechanical units
  • Level 140 some area for refuge only
  • Level 141 to 143 is a mechanical unit floor
  • Level 158 to 167 all levels locating mechanical units only. Just elevators hanging between to access upper part. 
  • Level 168 for the mass damper to avoid shaking the building.
  • Level 169 to 251: Empty with no purpose but just to demonstrate and achieve the high rise status. Including only stairs and lights while level with building maintenance unit for cleaning changing the glass panel. 
Overall levels in the buildings are 251 where people have no access to overall 119 levels as known as unusable floors. Only 132 levels have public access that including shopping malls, residents levels, sky lobby, observation deck and hotel rooms. 

#4 Similar team working who build Burj Khalifa


Burj Khalifa building designed by ASGG (Adrian D. Smith, Adrian Smith, and Gordon Gill). Similarly the design of Jeddah tower awarded by the client to ASGG. Similarly, the EC Harris and MACE who are the joint venture team managing the project assigned to manage the Jeddah Tower. 

The exterior part of the building is consist of Aluminum and Glass (Curtain Wall). Burj Khalifa exterior part of the building oversees by the Project Director known as John Zerafa is currently overseeing the Jeddah tower building exterior curtain wall. John Zerafa successfully passes the test of lower part of the building in China. The test conducts as PMU (performance mock-up test) and already install the exterior of lower parts panels. 


#5 Tallest building construction since 10+ years


Soil testing is done in 2008 while the project goes to start and sleep mode. After media circulations the finally the project announcement by the client Waleed Talal and construction start in 2011 ends. The project completion previously 2017 then 2018 December and now again on hold.

If the project is going to delay few more years then Jeddah tower might not the world tallest building anymore. As possibly other buildings higher than Jeddah tower finish soon. While Jeddah tower known as world tallest building consider no more. 

There are many addendums since the building construction started and who's know to keep only those floor since no talk in media anymore of their progress and completion schedule.

#6 Live construction cameras images


Earth cams supply and installs cameras for the public view to watch construction online. The public view the images with a delay of 15 minutes while live access to client and earth cams for preparing constructions timelines. The archive showing previous month construction images and videos compiling few months progress.

 #7 High rise Jeddah Tower for the attraction of investors only


The iconic Jeddah tower construction is to attract the investors of Jeddah Economic City. The buildings around Jeddah tower will require more money to build thus the icon of the tallest building will attract investors around the world to invest and complete the dream of Waleed bin Talal Economic city.

The Jeddah Economic city requires 20 Billion dollars to complete the city. While no investor will invest in just Red sea and sands unless to see something world highest and tallest building.
